A History in Dining Designs
The Guthrie family has been in the restaurant business for four
generations beginning with Mattie Guthrie's Diner in Springfield Ohio,
back in the 1920's.
Starting to learn cooking from his grandmother Opal when he could
just reach the stove top, William Guthrie entered the
food service industry at the age of thirteen and worked up the
ranks to become a Certified Executive Chef (CEC) with the American
Culinary Federation in 1996.
He first joined his family's Ovens of Brittany and Baker's Rooms
restaurants in Madison, Wisconsin which were designed and built by his
mother Jo Anna Guthrie. The Ovens of Brittany had been likened to
Chez Panisse in San Francisco and was known as one of the finest
restaurants in the state for 26 years.
William trained with the world-famous Chef, Jean Banchet of Le
Francai's and his protégé Jacque Bonet at the Playboy Club in Lake
Geneva, Wisconsin starting as the VIP/Fine dining room as Chef and
then Executive Sous Chef over the hotels 12 operating food facilities.
William gained experience in a variety of Chef positions, including the
Pfister Hotel, the Marc Plaza Hotel and the Grenadier restaurant, in
Milwaukee and as Executive Chef to the corporate headquarters Hilton
Hotel in Dallas, Texas.
His experience also included serving as Executive Chef to three, 4-Star
rated restaurants and one 5-Star rated restaurant in Dallas, which were
also hailed as a "Top Ten New Restaurant" by the Dallas Morning News.
The Elm Street Winery, Quadrangle Grille, Guthrie's Restaurant and
the Hotel Saint Germain (which is also a four star AAA & four diamond
Mobil rated property).
William Guthrie was the first Dallas Chef to be invited to perform his
culinary art at the James Beard House in New York city and has made
many personal public and TV appearances on shows such as Cooking
with Gail Greco and Good Morning Texas, Flavors of the Coast, and has
been elected a culinary judge at the State Fair of Texas for five
consecutive terms.
William Guthrie's Dining Designs is located in the beautiful
Innisfree Jet center.
I believe that the Panhandle is in for a culinary renaissance
and I am truly appreciative to be able to be a part of it!
